Smartphone Pledge

We pledge to delay giving our child a personal phone until at least age 15. If a basic device is granted, we retain the right to oversee its usage through parental controls or tracking apps.

“No smartphones before high school… give kids basic phones before ninth grade… [and] no social media before 16.” - Dr. Jonathan Haidt

  • We parents agree their child will not receive a personal phone before age 15.

  • Basic phones (with basic calling and texting functionality, but without social messaging apps such as WhatsApp or social media apps such as TikTok) or smartwatches may be permitted earlier, if necessary for communication.

  • We parents reserve the right to install tracking, monitoring, or screen‑time controls at our discretion.
